2026-2027 School Year
My goal as the middle school ELA and Literature teacher at Christ the King is to help promote Christ and the enjoyment of literature and reading. My hope is for the students to read, write and speak well. The selection of novels, chapter books, short stories and poetry will help them better understand written language and reading. I want the students to be present daily for class, ask questions, think outside the box and discover more than just written words. Parts of Speech and Grammar
These skills will help students to master grammar, knowing the meaning of unknown words or phrases using parts of speech and grammar. This is also very helpful when writing (which we will be doing a lot of in class).
Reading and Poetry
We will be reading five-chapter books this school year one or two per nine weeks. We will be working on comprehension, decoding, figurative language, parts of speech as well as incorporating writing. We will also be learning poetry and memorizing a poem next semester.

Book Reports
Students will be completing a book report outside of class (one per semester). We will be reading the books in class on Fridays, but they will need to complete the project that corresponds with the book at home. The first project will be due December 1, 2026 and the second book report will be due May 3, 2027. More information and a rubric will be sent out within the first nine weeks.
